The lake / Nature

Nature

Turquoise water, spruce forests, waterfalls and trout.

A jewel of the mountains

A colour not to be forgotten

Göygöl's chief wonder is its water. Clean and transparent, it shimmers with an astonishing blue-green, turquoise colour that changes with the light and the season. It is for this colour that the lake got its name.

The surrounding slopes are covered with dense spruce and beech forests — rare for Azerbaijan. Streams and waterfalls run down from the mountains, and the air is full of the scent of conifers and coolness.

Göygöl and its surroundings are rich in life: the famous trout lives in the cold water, and deer, roe deer and rare birds inhabit the forests. It is one of the country's most valuable natural places.

The wonder of colour

Living turquoise

The colour of Göygöl's water changes through the day and the season: from deep emerald to pale turquoise. Forests, cliffs and sky are reflected in it.

This clean, almost glowing water is the lake's true magic.
