The lake / National park

National park

A protected land of lakes, forests and mountain peaks.

Protected

Almost a century under protection

Göygöl is not just a beautiful lake but the heart of a large protected area. As early as 1925 a reserve was created around it — one of the first in Azerbaijan and in all the Caucasus.

Today it is Göygöl National Park, which protects mountain forests, meadows, peaks and a whole chain of lakes born of the same earthquake: Maralgöl, Zaligöl and others.

The protected status helps preserve the rare spruce forests, the purity of the water and the region's fauna. That is why visits to the park are arranged so that nature remains untouched.

Wild nature

Not only the lake

The national park is not a single lake but a whole mountain world: waterfalls, gorges, alpine meadows and forests, crossed by trails for travellers.

Here the nature of the Lesser Caucasus appears in all its richness.
